Custom  Ironwork

Blacksmith Shop & Design Studio

FireHouse Ironworks Ltd. is an innovative, solution-based artist-blacksmith design studio and gallery. We work with a variety of materials including iron, stainless steel, aluminum and mixed media.

About FireHouse Ironworks

FireHouse Ironworks Ltd. was established in 2011 by Grant Haverstock.

Haverstock purchased the former fire station in Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia and transformed the building into a modern blacksmith studio. Today, FireHouse Ironworks Ltd. is home to 2 coal fired forges and a modern metal working shop, as well as a gift shop and gallery space.  On any given day at the FireHouse, work on custom commission projects will be underway, blacksmith workshops may be in process, or community events taking place.

FireHouse Ironworks Ltd. is also the home of the Cape Breton Blacksmiths Association, a non-profit organization of 45+ local blacksmiths. Haverstock is the current president of the volunteer based non-profit association that seeks to promote the craft of blacksmithing through public education and demonstration.

What others say about us

Bryan

FireHouse Ironworks provided an excellent environment where one can feel very comfortable in honing their skills and trying new ones. Treated with great respect; you will feel “right at home”, while discovering that your own capabilities and creativity are endless. Grant explains techniques and methods in such a way, anybody who can hold a hammer could grasp the basics of this craft with little difficulty. Building on your skills, Grant demonstrates practical projects allowing you to explore and expand your ability to create with metal.

My 15 year old son and I took the one week blacksmithing workshop in August, 2012. It was an awesome experience for both of us. First of all, it was FUN! We had fun every day. We both learned a ton of basic skills, tricks and traps and all kinds of clever ways to accomplish a goal with metal. Every young person with any knack for hands on work should be given the opportunity to work in the forge.
